An 18th Century Oak Cased Thirty Hour Longcase / Grandfather Clock
Measuring approximately 86" x 18" x 10" (height, width, depth)
An oak thirty hour longcase clock signed Mark Metcalfe, C.1770.
Swan neck pediment over a 12 inch arched brass dial with silver chapter ring, date aperture and engraved centre.
The arch with painted plaque depicting a galleon, engraved dial borders, dummy winding holess, four pillar movement with an anchor escapement and outside counterwheel striking on the bell.
The case with triple arched door with a Brian Loomes label inside reading
' A handsome and interesting antique clock by a much saught after maker, Mark Metcalfe of Askrigg, pupil of John Ogden and working from the 1730's until his death in 1776. The original oak case is of very sound construction in oak and has a very good colour and finish. It stands just less than 7' 2" tall'.
