American Horn Chair by Wenzel Friedrich
Circa 1900, unusual American horn chair by Wenzel Friedrich. Composed of 22 steer cow horns each finished with a small acorn design carved finial and upholstered in deer hide. It finishes on 4 unusual and original Tiffany glass castors, and it is unusual to find horn chairs by Friedrich in such good condition.
Wenzel Friedrich (1827-1902) worked in San Antonio, Texas as a cabinetmaker and included horned antique furniture in his collection from 1880 onwards. The popularity of his chairs extended from the US to Europe with Kasier Wilhelm I of Bismark as a patron, as well as Queen Victoria. His pieces are regularly collected by museums throughout the US.
