This is an Aesthetic Movement chair c1875. The opening of the Japanese borders in the early 1860s after 300 years being firmly closed flooded the world with there influence. This can be seen here in the Victorian ebonising and trelace work so prevalent in there culture. It is a lovely and stylish chair on sold to the Victorian well off. A lovely thing and a lot of style.
