Unusual late 19th.c. Aesthetic Movement bamboo hall stand c.1880. Inspired by the fashion for Japanese art and design which swept the West following the country’s opening to international trade in the 1850’s. Elaborate bamboo frame standing 85″ tall. With six mallet shaped hooks for hats arranged around a useful little mirror. Over a stand for sticks and umbrellas with a removable metal drip tray in the base. 10″ ceramic tile at the centre featuring a hand painted Japanese style decoration by the French pottery of Creil-Montereau. Excellent condition cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
