A stunning pair of Victorian burr walnut inlaid pier cabinets. These are a true pair as they open opposite to each other, not the same way. They have a beautiful combination of fine burr walnut along with highly figured walnut veneer. The door is pin operated with arch tops, burr walnut veneer, string inlay, original glass cross banded with exotic thyuawood. Both doors have their original working locks with key and fine ormolu escutcheon.
To the side uprights and the concave top section there is fine marquetry inlay, with quality cast ormolu mounts to the top and bottom of said uprights. Just below the concave top section there is a brass bead decoration running along the front and around the sides. The tops have good figured walnut. They sit on an inlaid burr walnut plinth with line inlay and small mounted sledge brackets which avoid the veneer getting pulled of the base when being moved.
The interiors has been completely relined with authentic coloured velvet material. These are a truly magnificent pair of pier cabinets from this stylish period of Victorian opulence.
