A superb Georgian Pine Mule Chest


A superb Georgian Pine Mule Chest.
The Mule chest dates from around 1800, it has three moulded panels on the front and another on each side with a long Drawer at the bottom which has a moulded front
This Georgian Mule chest has a candle box with an elm lid and a very unusual internal locking mechanism to the drawer, there is a carved piece of ash that slides down the inside of the front of the box and engages into the drawer to prevent its opening
The top of the box has a moulded edge, blacksmith made strap hinges and the chest has an elm bottom. This good rustic piece has been stripped and waxed and is in good sound condition for its age, all the wood worm is dead this was killed during the stripping process
