A RARE 19TH CENTURY TOLE PEINTRE CENTRE SECONDS WALL REGULATOR
The dial bearing the signature Jump, London c1850
The waisted tear-drop shaped case veneered in flame mahogany to the front, with a short horizontal lockable door to the lower part, the centre with applied panel, the sides of the case constructed from a long thin sheet of painted tin, decorated to mimic the colour and flame of mahogany, the tin band screwed directly into blocks mounted on the conforming pine backboard, the two-piece silvered 10.5inch silvered dial with a dotted minute band enclosing the Roman numerals, with blued steel spade shaped hands and a counterpoised brass centre seconds hand, with rise and fall regulation dial below XII, the movement with rectangular plates united by knopped pillars, with maintaining power to the five wheel train now terminating in a deadbeat escapement using jewelled pallets, to a wood rod pendulum, driven by a thin lead weight measuring 25cms x 14cms x 1.5cms (10ins x 5.5ins x 0.5ins) with integral pulley.1.22m (4ft.) high

The well made square plate movement with fine knopped pillars and pull cord operated maintaining power detent features jewelled pallets and fine wheelwork and has been fully overhauled by me personally and comes with a full three year guarantee for your peace of mind.

what is impressive is the incredibly narrow case being only 4" thick! the solid lead weight with integral pully is wafer thin and slides perfectly between the case and slimline pendulum. This antique clock would have been a special commission piece requiring such a slim proportion. The flame mahogany case has well chosen book leaf veneers and look stunning in the flesh

Joseph Jump was apprenticed to the famous maker Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy in 1827. During the 1850s when Vulliamy died, Joseph and his brother Alfred continued the business. He later joined forces with Henry Jump and they continued together until 1899 when Henry died. During their time together they worked at 55 Pall Mall and 11 Old Bond Street. In the early 20th century the Jump Clockmakers were Clockmakers to the King.
