EDWARD WEBB, BRISTOL Circa 1740.
A fine quality Georgian walnut longcase clock. A flat moulded hood pediment with side glass apertures. Brass capped front column capitals. An arched trunk door typical of Bristol made antique clocks. Quarter matched walnut veneers to the trunk door with banded edging. An arched 11 1/2" brass and silvered dial with date aperture and seconds. A lunar scene to the arch. A quality 5-pillar mechanism of 8-day duration striking the hours on a bell.
Edward Webb of Bristol is well documented in AJ Moores 'Clockmakers of Bristol' book and is noted as 'A highly respected and skilful tradesman'. He worked from 1726-1761.
Height 7ft 2 " / 218cms.
