A Desirable C.17th Antique Carved Oak Dowry Chest / Coffer

Measuring approximately 50 1/2" x 28 1/2" x 20" (width, height, depth)
A most attractive old English peg and joint construction dating from between 1650-1700. Raised on a good length of stile and including 3 carved panels to the front in the form of diamond 'lozenges' with fluttering pennant-like terminals highly characteristic of the Halifax region of West Yorkshire.
The inch thick solid oak plank lid opening on very old iron hinges (not original) to provide an ample storage cavity for blankets etc
All panels are original.
A very clean box with some wear commensurate with age....the lid is slightly uneven on one corner and there is a small piece of cleated edge missing....nothing too detracting
No major worm damage
Very good medium to dark oak patina throughout.
Another attractive and functional piece of antique furniture
