A Blacksmith made Fenland eel fork. Eels hunting gathering %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A genuine vintage, rare and interesting if not gruesome item.
An eel fork used predominantly in the Fenland areas of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire to catch eels from the dykes and rivers. A real artifact from bygone rural life.
Commonly used when jellied eels were a cheap and popular meal, especially in London.
My grandmother told me about buying jellied eels from a man with a cart in Hackney. She went to live in Kent after spending the family holidays hop picking at Paddock Wood. Those were the days!
This is blacksmith made and still has the remnants of the pole (handle) in the end.

It is 14 inches or 36cms from the pole opening to the points, and 7 inches or 18cms across the spines.
Made from iron it weighs 1088 grams.

UK postage is £15.00.
