This is a superb quality late Victorian solid oak 4ft 6” wide roll top pedestal desk, circa 1880. It boasts four graduated drawers in each pedestal. The right hand pedestal features a filing drawer in the bottom drawer of the pedestal. The desk boasts solid golden oak fielded panels throughout and features the original oak cup handles to the pedestal. On each side of the tambour, there is a posting slot for mail (this allowed people to post mail into the desk while the tambour was locked). There is an oak modesty board, with two pullout-writing slides above 4 drawers in each pedestal. The interior has 14 internal drawers and 13 internal compartments and with brass finger hooks and knobs. The desk features a secret locking mechanism when the roll-top is closed which locks all the drawers except the central drawer. The “Angus of London” tambour lock and key are in working order. The desk sits on its original castors. The internal drawers are constructed of sycamore. The oak has an excellent tight grain with a wax finish. The desk dismantles into three sections for easy storage or transportation.

The sides of the desk are “S” shaped and have fielded panels allowing the desk to sit freestanding in the centre of a room. The desk is complete with a working lock and key, which operates a secret locking mechanism for the fall and the pedestal drawers. It is rare to see a roll top desk displaying such quality in a great condition.

The desk features a rich golden oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

This desk would look superb in a variety of rooms from the work place to the home office. The desk would certainly grace any home or office and a great investment, as they are an extremely functional. So don't miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.
