19th Century French Hat Makers Stretcher Hat Block

Truly early industrial antique, this piece dates from the first half of the 19th Century, showing all the signs of its hard life

This is a charming piece of social history, it is made in sycamore, it has a very old mechanism with a winding handle
The block has waxed finish and has been treated for woodworm so it will do no further damage, it is 11: tall, 20” long ay the handle and 8” in diameter
