19th C Gillow 6 Meter Pollard Oak Dining Table

Very Rare and Exceptional 6-Meter William IV Pollard Oak Double-Winder Extending Dining Table Stamped Gillow With Seven Original Leaves (Rare Size)
An exceptionally rare mid-19th-century William IV period pollard oak wind-up extending dining table of monumental 6 meter length, stamped “Gillow” on each side of the base and retaining all seven original leaves, a size and completeness that are extraordinarily scarce.
Of superb quality throughout, this impressive table is constructed in richly figured pollard oak with a deep, warm patina. The moulded rectangular top with gently rounded corners rests on six bold spiral turned legs, each terminating in its original large brass castors. The table is fitted with its original double screw expander winding mechanism, which operates smoothly to extend the table to its full, very rare length of approximately 600 cm.
The seven original leaves (each approximately 60 cm) allow a remarkable degree of flexibility, taking the table from an intimate setting to a grand scale capable of seating from 8 up to around 28 diners in great comfort, ideal for both private dining rooms, conference rooms and distinguished hospitality settings.
Each side of the base is stamped “Gillow”, confirming its manufacture by one of the most renowned English cabinetmaking firms of the 19th century. Gillows pieces of this scale, in pollard oak, with full original leaves and mechanism intact, very seldom appear on the market.
Dating from circa 1850, this table is in excellent original condition, with beautifully figured pollard oak top with a rich, even patina, original double winder mechanism in good working order, seven original matched leaves (extremely rare for a table of this length) and six original turned spiral legs with large brass castors.
A highly important and very rare William IV / early Victorian period extending dining table, combining exceptional scale, restrained elegance, and outstanding provenance. A true statement piece for a refined interior or serious collection.
Height 76cm (29.9in)
Width 183cm (72.0in)
