A finely detailed and superb quality portrait from the mid 18th century.

Jean Francois de la Marche, Bishop of Leon. The artist being declared on the reverse as JBL Allen and monogrammed lower right corner.

Housed within a glazed frame, so please excuse some of the reflections from the glass.

The colours and detail for a painting of such age is quite remarkable.

To the reverse a hand written bio. Escaped persecution in France, shipwrecked and after many adventures reached England. Instrumental in helping many emigre priests fleeing France.
