18th century floor standing rushlight from Co.Mona


An 18th century adjustable floorstanding rushlight from Clontibret,Co.Monaghan
The candle socket to top ,rectangular jaw and open rolled sockets are typical of this region.
Round section stem stands upon a tripod base with adjustable nip and socket.
Two candle sockets were possibly used for lace making,where extra illumination would be of an advantage,for close intricate work.
For an almost identicle example please see The rushlight and related holders by robert pashby page 269 ,figure 45 that is in Monaghan County Museum
