Victorian Gilt-Framed Engraving of Samuel Trehawke
Artist - Engraved by Samuel Bellin (1799-1893) after the original by George Richmond (1809-1896)
Title - Trehawke Kekewich
Details - Engraving published by M.M. Holloway in October 1862. The portrait is of Samuel Trehawke Kekewich (1796-1873), an English MP. The engraving has a pencilled signature beneath the image (which appears to be over another - possibly printed signature) and beneath this is written 'With Trehawke Kekewich Kind Regards 30th Nov 1865' - again the writing here appears to be traced over earlier writing or printing. We have no provenance for the signatures and inscription and are doubtful that they are original. The engraving is framed in an antique Victorian wood and gesso gilt frame.
Condition - Overall in fair condition. The engraving is badly discoloured, stained and marked and has some foxing. The writing / printing on the front appears to have been later traced over in pencil. The gilt frame is grubby, scuffed and worn, with some scratching and some areas of chipping and loss to the paintwork. There is some shrinkage cracking to the corners of the frame and it has no back board.
The approx. measurements are as follows:

Frame - 73.5cm by 61cm, 2.5cm deep.

Title - Trehawke Kekewich
