We are pleased to offer for sale this unusual Victorian Brass Doorstop or Door Porter of a pair of footballers. They both are sporting large moustaches, one of them being a handlebar, and they are wearing football jerseys, below the knee shorts or breeches as well as their football boots. A football is on the grass near their feet. They are standing on a plinth with stepped foot, which bears an embossed footballer kicking a ball.

There is a maker's mark on the back, of two triangles one upside down on top of the other, the top one bearing the letters R and R and the lower one with L & M. On checking the oldcopper site, which is a very useful source of marks, this same mark is shown. Unfortunately, however, the maker is unknown. Obviously the maker is British, as it bears a Registered Number 296186, which dates the registration of the design to 1897. It also bears the number 393. We have shown a photo of the back, in case anyone has any further information.
