Richard Britton B. 1931 Gouache Robin & Clematis

We are pleased to offer for sale this charming and meticulously detailed gouache/watercolour by the artist Richard Britton, who has signed the painting to the lower right. The painting depicts Britain's favourite bird the Robin Redbreast perched on an old wooden gatepost with a rusty bracket attached to it. Hanging down is a long strand of Clematis Montana in flower. Let alone the beautifully executed bird, the wood of the post, complete with splits and knots and the rust on the bracket have been captured masterfully.
This is one of a small collection of paintings by this artist that we have acquired and will be listing over the next few weeks.
Richard N. Britton was born in 1931 and has been a professional artist for over 40 years and his main subject is animal portraiture, as well as landscapes, seascapes and sculpture. He uses a full range of media. He lives in Worcestershire where he has his studio.
He spent six months in South Africa at the invitation of the Department of Nature Conservation, painting endangered wildlife, which led to many commissions to paint equestrian portraits on the Cape. He is a committed conservationist.
