Mark Pain of Ash (Kent) Georgian Bracket Clock


A quality late Georgian bracket antique clock by Mark Pain of Ash (Kent). Choice flame mahogany veneers of good colour to the well proportioned case. An arched top with cast brass carrying handle. Arched side sound brass fretwork with silk backing. Ebonised banding to the case front with a diamond. A twin fusee, 5-pillar mechanism striking the hours on a bell. A border engraved backplate, side case mounts and pendulum. Brass bun feet. A convex painted dial with blued steel hands signed 'PAIN, ASH' with a cast brass bezel surround and convex glass. Circa 1830.
Mark Pain of Ash is recorded in Loomes' ' Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' book as working from 1826-1847.
