Listed artist Beryl Matchwick
MATCHWICK, Beryl Alice
1907 - 1998
Born at Marylebone, London on 23 January 1907, second child of William Guildford Matchwick (1862-1945), a stockbroker, and his wife Alice née Attlee (1862-1947), who married at Dorking, Surrey on 5 September 1900. In 1911, a 4 year old, living at Greencroft, Belmont Road, Reigate, Surrey with her parents, 48 year old William and 48 year old Alice, and sibling Daphne Guildford 7. She studied at Redhill School of Art under William Todd-Brown (1875-1952). A member of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers and was known for her flower pieces and was also a teacher of music. She exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from Greencroft, Reigate in 1927, two oil paintings 'Marigolds' and 'Delphiniums', she also exhibited at the Royal Academy Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours Royal Scottish Academy Paris Salon and elsewhere. In 1939, a flower painter miniaturist, still living with her parents at Belmont Road, Reigate. She married at Guildford in 1948, Anthony Martin Tew (24 August 1908-23 June 1987), a police inspector, and they lived at 'Springmead', Ramsbury, Marlborough, Wiltshire. Beryl died at River Park, Marlborough, Wiltshire on 6 December 1998.
