A rare Yates patent champagne or wine stopper. As can be seen in the photographs, it operates with a grip to secure it to the bottle and a rubber stopper which is screwed inwards to cover the opening. There is then a tap to control the release of the champagne from the bottle.

The patent by Mr Yates was taken out in 1878.

It is original, including the rubber stopper, and it is in good condition, no damage to the chrome, just the minor nicks associated with age and use.

I have not tried it as times are hard and my wife won't let me near any alcohol!
