Writing Slope Victorian Tunbridge Ware Walnut
Antique writing slope of grand proportions in stunning Walnut.
A stunning large Walnut and Tunbridge Ware writing slope which has superb mixed timber inlays.
It has a train line Parquetry banding's to top and front which are made from many various timbers of the time inlaid into the Walnut, fantastic skilled work. Tiny pieces of mixed timbers put together to form these great patterns. The box has canted edges to top, which are in an array of tiny pieces of various woods in superb bands, superb quality.
Circa. 1860 to 1880 in date.
The top lifts up to reveal a writing and storage area's.
The inside is mainly in Walnut and has a replacement new antique burgundy leather with a 18 carat gold decorative boarder's and corner motifs.
Inner flaps both lift up for storage of papers or desktop items.
Inside also contains a pair of inkwell pot's with screw off lid's one for black the other for red ink.
Two lift out lidded compartment for pens, nibs etc.
All brass work is functional and well maintained.
Centre cartouche to middle of top is un-engraved.
Inside has three small secret drawers. These are hidden behind a sprung loaded panel which can be opened by pulling upwards on the inkwell divider as shown in pictures.
Fully working quality lock and key.
Lid closes well.
Green cloth on underside for protection.
There is no mistaking its unique quality and design, which is sure to make it a treasured piece by any discerning collector.
The timbers are in superb condition for its age and can't see any major damage.
Excellent polish in very well maintained condition with lush shine. Not sure pictures show it that well.
