This is a rare sword made by “kenning little Britain London “ the blade marked . Presented to captain Handsley by the non commissioned officers and privates of the 17 th L.R.V. 1871. Make no mistake this sword is just one for the collection or for some serious restoration. The knuckle guard has come away from the pommel it’s not broken just pulled out the shark skin on the grip has worn through to the wood.. short of that the blade is not pitted no bends no edge nicks . I haven’t cleaned this it’s had a wipe with an oily rag. The guard and back strap are brass and incredibly well cast and originally engraved and gilded on the inside No expense was spared when this was commissioned. I have seen examples of this type of hilt in steel and not as well done priced at close to 3k unrestored this is a fantastic addition to a collection.
