This beautiful tea caddy is a Tunbridge ware tea caddy with Van Dyke triangles around the sides and with the 'isometric cube' design on the lid. It is estimated to have been made between 1800-1820 putting it between Georgian and Regency eras.

The pieces of veneer used to create the designs come from a wide range of exotic woods. Tulip wood is the veneer that encircles the tea caddy at the base. Inside, rosewood is used to line the lid, base and lids to the compartments. The lid to the compartments also have an inlaid design of 4 diamonds with a brass knob on each and sit on ledged edges inside the tea compartments. These compartments still have remnants of the original tin lining.

The shape of the tea caddy is what's known as a 'sarcophagus' style box, with the lid having four canted (angled) edges. There is a working lock and key. The key is not original to the box.

This tea caddy is in excellent condition with no loss of veneer and only light scratches.
