An Most Beautiful and Striking Antique Lavar Kerman Carpet
South East Persian, Iran, Dating to circa 1890 - 1900
An extraordinarily pretty and highly decorative carpet, employing the most detailed and intricate of designs. The central field with a repetitive abstracted pattern of cypress trees and millefleurs, all contained with no fewer than five borders of various flowers and vegetation.
The design of this carpet is unusual not only for its high level of intense detail, but also the overall shape in that it is almost square. Because of these unusual dimensions, it could make a terrific fit for a specific room or decorative scheme.
Dimensions -
Approx 120 x 112 inches.
Condition -
For a Lavar Kerman of this age, the condition can be considered very good. It is possible to compare with several similar and fine Kermans sold via the major specialist auction rooms in London and America and where those examples, with more wear than this example, are classed as good - very good. The carpet has been well used over the years, with quite extensive wear and the pile which is rather thin in places. There does not appear to be any holes or careless damage (no rips or stains to the central field etc), more just generally even wear from regular service. There is some wear away and loss along one edge (with approx 1.5 ft of the fringing completely absent and wear into the outer most edge of the border) and some more wear to the fringing along the same adge, but apart from this it appears largely complete around the border, with limited fringing remaining at both ends.
