Kilim Flat weave Rug or Wall Hanging
This is a charming vintage Kilim Rug. It can equally well be used as a wall hanging.
It is made of yarns of wool flat tapestry woven in a geometric pattern of an earthy brown palette, with paler pastel blue and pink highlights. Hand knotted fringe
Very good condition throughout.
Kilims are flat tapestry-woven carpets or rugs traditionally produced in countries of the former Persian Empire, including Iran, the Balkans and the Turkic countries. They are classed as "slit woven" textiles, when the end of a color boundary is reached, the weft yarn is wound back from the boundary point. Thus, if the boundary of a field is a straight vertical line, a vertical slit forms between the two different color areas where they meet. The slits are beloved by collectors, as they produce very sharp-etched designs, emphasizing the geometry of the weave. ALL OF OUR ITEMS INCLUDE FREE UK MAINLAND DELIVERY.
