Carved marble bust by Peter Hollins. Dated 1851

Superb quality life size carved marble bust of WILLIAM HUTTON of Birmingham by PETER HOLLINS, SCULPTOR. Signed on the back along with the date of 1851. Having looked up the Dictionary of British Sculptures where Peter Hollins works are all listed we believe this is a bust of WILLIAM HUTTON who was a poet and famous Birmingham historian, born 1723 and died 1815.
Superb detail throughout.
The piece is in un-touched original condition. There are some paint spots to the back of it and there is a very small chip to the hair at the very top.
Peter Hollins was one of the foremost marble sculptors of the 19th century, he was born on the 1st of May 1800 in Birmingham and died 16th August 1886. He worked in London, Birmingham and for a short period in Glasgow. He exhibited his works at the Royal Academy. He produced over sixty major works, including statuary at Malvern Priory, Bodelwyddan Castle, the Royal College of Surgeons and Weston Park.
