A good quality small vintage Chinese carved camphor wood chest with hinged lid. It has brass corners and strapping with brass handle to the front. The top is carved with traditional chinese characters “Shou” the Chinese character for longevity (on the left) and “fu” the character for fortune (the character to the right). The front is carved with a dragon and phoenix and the sides are carved with birds and foliage. It has carry handles to the sides (later replacements) and a brass lock with key (for decoration only). Inside, the chest is clean and is lined with camphor wood with its distinctive aroma. Would make a great blanket chest, storage box or could be used as a decorative coffee table. Dating from circa 1930-1950.
