A truly elegant table / desk box, English in origin and from the Regency period dating to c.1820.

Standing on four original bun feet, the box is veneered in exotic Rosewood and the top and front is beautifully inlaid with cut brass decoration, trimmed with carved beading.

The box opens to reveal the original lining to the lid in silk and bordered in gold embossed leather. This has a catch to the top which opens a compartment where papers would be stored.

The base of the box has been more recently re-lined in a hand-marbled paper creating a clean finish ready for use.

Complete with a working key it remains in excellent condition nearly 200 years old. 9 3/4" x 7 1/4" x 5 1/4".
