Austrian Bronze Rhinoceros Inkwell,c1910
Early 20th century Austrian cold painted bronze inkwell,c1910. Cast in figural form as a Rhinoceros this is a fine and heavy example weighing 1kg. The detail to the body and features is good and the bronze has taken on great colour/patina following many years of handling and use. The base is marked 'Geshutzt' or similar (its a little indistinct), a mark regularly used on German / Austrian antiques in the early 20th century and meaning 'legally protected/copyrighted'. The hinged lid opens to reveal two openings for the ink. At some point it would have held porcelain or glass inkwells but these are now missing. A lovely decorative piece in good original condition in line with age and use.
