Antique Waltham P S Bartlett full hunter pocket watch
Antique Waltham P S Bartlett full hunter pocket watch.
The watch has a 17-jewel stem-winding movement, P S Bartlett grade, which is working nicely. This is a high grade movement with a Church 1892 patent regulator, screw set jewels with gold settings and a Breguet hairspring. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 22,011,382 which dates it back to 1918.
The Bartlett grade was named after Patten Sargeant Bartlett who was one of the early employees of the Boston Watch Company which went on to become the Waltham Watch Company. He subsequently left Waltham to work for the National Watch Company at Elgin Illinois but eventually returned to Waltham to work as a salesman before opening his own wholesale business.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is the gold filled Moon model from the Dennison Watch Case Company, an English case manufacturer and main supplier to Waltham UK. The case has general light marking, nothing serious at all, and some gentle unevenness to the front cover.
The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover. Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition (some reflection showing on the photos).
The signed dial looks good to the naked eye… if viewed through a jeweller’s loupe, there is a short faint hairline under the subsidiary seconds dial. Blued steel hands.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
