Antique Waltham half hunter pocket watch and chain
An antique Waltham half hunter pocket watch and chain.
The watch has a stem-winding movement, Bond Street grade, which is working nicely it is protected by an inner hinged cover. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 7950690 dates it back to 1896.
The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and was made in England by Aaron Dennison, who had an important association with Waltham. This is the top of the range 14ct gold plated case which was originally guaranteed to wear for 25 years. The case has a little unevenness to the back but overall is in good condition for such an early piece. The front cover has Roman numerals with enamel infill surrounding a small plastic lens. There is a little play in the hinge but it is secure.
The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover. Inside there is a glass lens which is in good condition. The signed white enamel dial has a faint hairline running downwards from the centre. Special half hunter hands so that the time can be read even when the front cover is closed. Subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch comes on a single chain, 30.5cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
