Antique Le Phare pocket watch / chronograph
Antique Le Phare pocket watch / chronograph.
The watch has a stem winding movement, the Le Phare 114VCC, which is working nicely. This was perhaps Le Phare's most well known movement and could be found in gun metal cased watches used by American, French and German pilots in the first World War. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for Birmingham 1918, together with a case maker's mark for the English watch case maker Dennison, the company supplied cases for various watch makers. The case is in good condition. There is rubbing to the engine turned detail to the back just from years of use.
At the time this watch was produced, Le Phare was owned by Zenith. This was only a short lived arrangement as they took the company over in 1915 but by 1922 Le Phare had become independent again.
The watch glass is in lovely condition.
The enamel dial has three faint hairline cracks running from number 11, the longest of which runs down towards number 8, but they are faint. Two subsidiary dials, one for constant seconds and the other records up to 30 minutes. Blued steel hands.
