This superb, large, and highly decorative late 19th century Italian naïve majolica pottery figure is hand modelled in clay, which is painted and glazed in bold colours.

It depicts the traditional figure of Pulcinella, a clown like entertainer from 17th century entertainment and puppetry.

The male figure is humorously dressed in a bright and flamboyant performance costume which includes a high peaked hat and a partial leather face mask. He is holding an early stringed instrument, eager to entertain.

This decorative piece is in good original condition.
