A Good English Fusee Drop-Dial Wall Clock

A lovely example of this type of iconic, late Regency period wall clock in a mahogany case with a convex dial.
The 8 day duration, fusee timepiece movement with Anchor Recoil escapement, shouldered plates, long pendulum, stop work and offset winding.
Behind a 12" diameter, bowed (convex) painted iron dial. Having an outer and divided minute track and inner, Roman hour numerals. The centre bears the maker's signature of "SIMMS (of) CHIPPING NORTON". Having blued steel and matching 'spade' style hands and under a cast brass, locking bezel with a bowed glass.
Contained in a good, dark Cuban mahogany case of excellent figuring, colour and patina. The narrow and moulded bezel surround sits over the trunk that is inlaid with brass geometrical designs with the upper border line conforming to the curve of the bezel surround. It is flanked with plain and shaped 'ears' and is separated from the rounded base by a 3-sided ebony moulding. The base has a rounded, cockbeaded and locking regulation door and also has conforming brass inlay. The backbox has the usual access door to the right side.
The maker was probably Samuel Simms circa 1790 to 1869.
