A British Railways Fusee Dial Clock with 8 Dial Wall clock Dial Clock Walker %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A good example of a small mahogany dial clock by John Walker of London.

The usual, good quality, 8 day duration, gut fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement, stopwork to the winding and short pendulum.

Behind an 8" diameter, flat painted iron dial with its original paintwork. Having an outer, divided minute track with triangular hour markings, inner, Roman hour numerals and the centre being written with "B. R. L. M. JOHN WALKER, 1 SOUTH MOLTON ST." above the centre and "LONDON 1710." below the centre. The paired brass hands are painted black and are behind a hinged and cast brass bezel and sight ring with a thick and bevelled glass.

Contained in a red mahogany circular case with a one-piece, pegged-on dial surround and a backbox with a side access door to the right. The curved bottom also has a curved, locking and cockbeaded regulation door. The lower right side bears the original white enamel plate bearing the clock's number of "1710" and can be seen in the pictures.

This is a genuine railway clock that was re-numbered during 1923 when the railway companies were nationalised into 'British Railways' and registered as 'British Railways London Midland'. It's a very good example of one of the more desirable, small and numbered dial clocks. It is worth noting that a true representation of the case colour and size of the clock can be seen in the picture that shows a team member holding it also, the substantiality of these movements literally fill the backbox. They really are designed to 'last forever'. Also, it is highly important and a valuable feature for the dials of these clocks to have their original background paint - even if 'patched'.
