Here is a very good quality antique 8ft by 5ft Victorian wool rug, circa 1900, which we believe to be of Turkish origin.

Here is a very good quality antique 8ft by 5ft Victorian wool rug, circa 1900, which we believe to be of Turkish origin. The rug boasts incredible detail and strong vibrant bold colours. The centre of the rug features deep reds and blues in three large symmetrical geometric / angular lozenges. In the background, are four smaller corner geometric / angular lozenges on a backdrop of reds, browns and cream colours with small surrounding intersperse patterns. The rug has a well-defined border primarily consisting of creams interspersed with other colours. There is a small fringe to either side of the rug. The rug has been constructed on a woven loom and is hand knotted. The rug features a deep but tightly knotted pile, which makes it suitable for heavy traffic areas of the house. It would be ideal for furnishing a large room.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the kitchen, the living room, dining room or bedroom.

Condition This rug is in very good condition considering its age. The rug is clean and free is free of damage, holes or stains. There is natural colour variation throughout this handmade rug. There is slight even age related wear / fade across the rug, which is to be expected on older rugs. The rug features a deep and tightly knotted pile, which makes it suitable for heavy traffic area of the house such as the hallway. There are some old marks to the underside of the rug on one corner (see photo), however, this cannot be seen when the rug is right way up.
