Description

A good example of a 19th century travel trunk. Painted in standard issue black with the original labels still attached. This trunk belonged to William H Murray who by the looks of it was with the Military Band & Orchestra of the time. Hand painted to the front with his name and destination of Lucknow in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The label to the left is for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. Now more commonly known as P&O ferries. The trunk is nicely bound with steel straps and at some point it would have been lockable.
