Description

A superb vintage six foot long bentwood toboggan with sign-writing of 'The Belvoir' to the front curve, beautifully constructed and in lovely condition. The side rails have had new leather bindings to secure the poles into position. The manufacturers plaque to the front reads Garner & Sons Ironmongers in Melton Mowbray Leicestershire. This was a small hardware store and office managed by Colonel Ted Garner alongside his brother Charlie and son David. This business closed its doors for the final time in the 1960's. A superb piece which we understand would have had a padded mat for four people to sit on. This has latterly been used to display whole cheeses in a retail shop. Many uses I am sure and that is one we would not have come up with. circa early 20th century. Please note the pole beneath the sled is purely for display purposes.
