Description

18th century repeat double fusee verge table clock by Grant Fleet street London. Number 450. In an Elegant solid mahogany ebonised case. Inverted bell top with original carry handle and finials.

7 inch arched dial with strike silent feature also date function. With pull repeat. Glazed on all sides to see the fine engraved back plate and movement working. This clock is 100% original. 8 day double fusee verge 5 pillar movement made to the highest standard. Striking on its original bell on the hour the amount of hours. Clock measures. Height 51 cm handle up. Down. 48 cm. Width 26.5 cm. Depth 17cm

John Grant was one of the finest of the London clockmakers at the end of the 18th century. Grant was apprenticed to his uncle, Alexander Cumming (himself a clockmaker of fine repute), becoming Free of the Clockmakers’ Company in 1781. He held the office of Warden and died in 1810, succeeded by his son, also John.
