This is a splendid Regency oak framed oval mirror vigorously carved with acanthus leaves in high relief, dating from circa 1830. The oak frame has been shaped and carved from two solid pieces joined at top and bottom with a third piece, a single acanthus leaf, attached to the top and hiding the joint.

This mirror would make quite a statement in a hallway where the detailing and fluidity of the carving can be most appreciated.

Dimensions 75 x 58 cm. A half pint mug has been used as a scale in the final photograph.

Condition: The oak frame is in excellent condition with just one chip to the tip of a leaf. It has a lovely medium brown colour and patina. The mirror glass is a relatively recent replacement and it has been set in putty within the frame so there is no movement. There are some professional repairs to the reverse at top and bottom. The back boards appear to be original to the frame
