Large Christopher Dresser Arts and Crafts Brass Firedogs Art Furnishers AllianceA large and imposing matching pair of brass firedogs designed by Dr Christopher Dresser and likely to be made by Benham and Froud or Chubb & Sons and sold through the Art Furnishers Alliance of New Bond Street London.
Typical of the Egyptianesque/Greek hieroglyphs utilised on Art Furnishers Alliance ebonised furniture, the firedogs present a most intriguing input to the range sold at their showrooms.
Ref: With reference to Harry Lyons & Christopher Morley book 'Christopher Dresser Peoples Designer 1834-1904' figures 143 to 148 and figures 157 to 160, clear design elements and similarities exist for these firedogs in both the Bushloe House and Allangate residences.
Size: 32.5cm high x 26.5cm wide x 20cm deep.
Date: Circa 1880.
