Georgian 8 Day Striking Bracket Clock

The shallow broken arch top, dark fruit wood case with brass feet and brass fish scale frets to the sides stands 16 inches high with the handle up.
Full opening front door with engaved brass frets secured by lock and key allows acces to the strike, silent lever, and has a convex glass.

The 7 inch diameter, cream painted dial is signed "Croft", "Plymouth Dock" with the hours indicated in Roman Numerals, complete with black hour and minute hands of the period.

The glazed door secured by lock and key at the back gives access to a 2 train, 8 day fusee movement with verge esacapement striking on a bell. The back plate is border engraved and signed "Croft", "Plymouth Dock".There is a pull repeat cord that strikes the current hours.

Robert Croft, Plymouth Dock is referenced in Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World by G H Baillie, as being free of the Clockmakers Company in 1790.
