French Rosewood Chair in House of Hackney

Photos

Description

French in origin and of solid rosewood with gilt highlights, this early 20th Century Rosewood Hall Chair is absolutely exquisite.

In lovely condition (just cleaned and waxed), it has been upholstered in a glorious and dare we say it slightly subversive cotton velvet "Hackney Empire" by House of Hackney. Depicting a hookah-smoking sloth, a frog in a bowler hat, a fanning otter and an imbibing badger, amongst others, there are allusions to at least a few of the seven deadly sins!

A sure sign of its quality is the fact that the carving is identical both on the front and the back of each leg - equally beautiful from front to back.

A stunning piece!

Dimensions: 106 cm high x 54 cm wide x 50 cm deep.
