Expertly carved from richly grained wood, this Japanese Kibori Kuma captures a bear in motion, salmon gripped firmly in its jaws. Originating in Hokkaido, these expressive sculptures rose to prominence in the early 20th century, blending Ainu traditions with Japanese folk artistry. The bear’s fur is sculpted in rhythmic, flowing strokes, while the salmon is rendered with delicate precision—evoking a vivid moment of instinct and survival.
