Description

An English George III mahogany Canterbury.

A fine early example of an English Canterbury. These pieces were first introduced in the late 18th century and intended for a music room and were designed to store sheet music, often used to store magazines or books in recent years. This early example dates to c 1810 and is of a plain stylish rectangular design with a slender mahogany frame with four divisions. Below there is a slim single drawer with original gilt brass knobs. This charming piece stands on elegantly turned slender legs with original brass castors. ( one rear castor was replaced but a close match to the originals.)

This Canterbury is in very good original condition.

English circa 1810
