Description

A rare studio pottery hand created mythical sculpture of the many faces of sea urchins.

This incredibly complicated hand sculpted work of art is the work of a very creative and imaginative artist the likes of which I have never seen before. There is a simple inscribed monogram on the base which appears to be F T and the date of 1934 or possibly 1936.

I have spent time trying to research this most interesting and fine piece to no avail. It appears to be unique and the work of a highly accomplished artist who had great imagination and skill.

It is boulder shaped and seems to be portraying an underwater image of a large rock completely covered in a huge variety of different sea urchins some of which have human faces which are completely different to each other and modelled in a great variety of sizes and positions separated with multitudes of small plain urchins drifting in the seas gentle current.

This piece has to be seen to be fully appreciated. It is in very good original condition and it would have taken a lot of hours to hand sculpt.
