Description

A rare and most unusual brilliantly modelled and well scaled scratch built novelty hotel post box dating to circa 1930 which would have been made to sit on the reception counter of a hotel most likely called the Coach and Horses. This fabulous decorative item has been constructed mainly from wood and finely hand painted with very good detail. At the top of the roof just below the sign, hotel post there is a slot for conveniently posting letters and postcards from the hotel. The back of the inn is hinged and has a lock and key. This opens to reveal a fully modelled and painted interior. In the sloping ceiling, there is a brass twist handle that releases the hinge panel which drops down to gain access to the mail which would be passed on daily to the post office or post box. Most convenient for the hotel guests. This piece is unique and one of a kind. It would have been made by a skilled person as a labour of love and would have taken many, many hours of work to produce. It is in very good original condition with some minor age related crazing and small losses to the paint. A very pleasing and fascinating object.
