Painted Calabash Gourd

Description
Painted Calabash GourdWhite Metal Collar
Believed to be Mid-Victorian
Approximately 110mm tall and 91mm at its widest
Weight approximately 100g
The calabash gourd is an extremely vigorous climbing vine growing in warm climates. The fruits are picked when immature and cooked like squashes. The mature fruit forms a hard wooden shell and can be used as a drinking gourd. Apparently this was the purpose for which it was first cultivated.
There is another with a hallmarked silver collar listed in the Silver section.
