Description

This is a magnificent pair of mid 19th century Chinese terracotta Fo Dogs or temple guardians of grand scale. Fo Dogs have traditionally stood guard at the front of temples and other important buildings including the homes of the wealthy.
These lion dogs have a fabulous look they have an excellent colour and are very well weathered, having moss and lichen on them. They are generally in excellent condition for their age, with just the odd minor chip to the terracotta in areas such as the teeth or scales. These are a substantial size, the largest is 3ft 5inches high or 104cm.
